We know Saturn as Father Time, yet there are other ancient Saturn archetypes, barely concealed by the topsoil of fae tales & folklore. 

Saturn is also a Bone Mother. 

Known to my ancestors as the Cailleach, She is the Hag of Winter, bringer of snow, sorrow, attrition & hardships endured; but She has other names in other places. She the Death goddess who carries the seeds of Life.

Bone Mother bears hag-wisdom & old, bone-&-rock tales drawn from mitochondrial memory & subterranean, antediluvian Time. As old as the Winters of all our grandmothers. Her gifts are hard-won & possibly the most soulful of all. 

Saturn as Crone ruler of earthy Capricorn perches on cold crags far from the warm sunlight & sweet fertile nurturance of Great Mother Cancer. Lady Moon in implacable Cap is in Her exile & more confronting than comforting. Yet we learn here how to Mother ourselves in crucial ways; to cultivate embodied tenderness.

A Supermoon in the House of Bone Mother Saturn illuminates & amplifies our resources & responsibilities, necessities & limitations. 

And a lunation, so close to compulsive composter Pluto sets the signatures for this month’s Full Moon. 

What power structures are being exposed? Where is the rot beneath what we thought was secure? What lay hidden that‘s now illuminated & reflected in the river that flows between Cancer & Cap? What is real & what is it we fear? 

Bone Mother insists we do the work ourselves. We must grow grit & backbone, & deal with the real. It’s a sterner kind of mothering than Cancer provides. We fear Bone Mother as the child-eating witch of fairytales - devouring Mother. But she offers initiation. The eating of children is symbolic, figuring as the end of childhood dependency & initiation into maturity. 

Chop wood. Carry water. Stir the cauldron. Perform Bone Mother’s tasks & set your House in order.
